how are the cylinders numbered on a v8 mercruiser (cos it was a head gasket that was blown thanks for advice) i now need to do ignition timing and valves
You might work it out from first principles using the distributor etc but otherwise try US website eg Grubbs at oldmercs.com or that other merc site I have prev posted URL for but seem to have lost it..... BTW if posting on US site it's best to make clear whether you're asking for the firing order, or the cylinder numbering order, cos they're obv different.
Is it a 7.4L? If so I can look in my manuals and find out tomorrow, Wednesday. The cylinder numbers are stamped on the top of the engine - not the firing order.
This link gives loads of firing orders including Chevy ones which I am 99% sure the Merc 7.4 is.

It's interesting 'cos I thought all V8s firing order was the same but apparently not.
