It is about 10 years since I last did any sailing and now I am looking forward to doing some again, I was a regular reader of the magazines and kept up to date with this forum but have fallen behind.
When last I was in the yacht club people were talking about having AIS installed and all of the wind generators seemed to be disappearing (why is that? were they a fad?) and there was mention of pre-registering before sailing to the continent. Have there been any changes in regulations?
I guess most changes in the last 10 years would involve electronics. I still have the boat sitting in its mud berth and I need to spend a lot of money on it, other than engine sails, and rigging is there anything else I should think about getting? It is a Leisure 27 BTW.

Thanks

Brendan.

The water is still wet.
The weather is worse, mostly.
The Belgians still have twisted knickers but nobody is paying attention.
Everybody now has class B AIS. Those few that don't have to give way to those that do.
Solar panels are cheaper.
Sails are more expensive but will let you exceed twenty knots.
Electronics are now cheaper, or more expensive.
A lot of people appear to navigate by phone or pad, but history doesn't record if they ever arrive.
I haven't seen a Leisure 27 for ages, so they must have all sunk or been sold overseas.

Actually, everything is just as before, and you can still enjoy yourself without having all the latest stuff.

Came back to yachting after 11 years having not kept up with trends and found a world obsessed with safety and electronic navigation and much bigger boats ....how did I manage with just the basic compass and log .
