What do you treat your wheel with?

Our wheel is covered in what looks to be mole skin, what should we treat it with to keep it soft and to stop it from cracking or splitting?

Sorry - I jest. Try the stuff that one puts on leather sailing shoes. Sabago makes/sells it. Or dubbin?

i woz told by the chap who made mine ( Elk Hide ) use nothing at all

Wash in fresh water and leave it at that

I was told long ago by a salty old sea dog that fresh water is the right treatment, because the best thing to keep the leather in good nick is the grease from your own fair hands, and most treatments stop it from transferring easily......

Might be complete rubbish, but it supports the above comments!
