Picture the scene, Nice hot windless day,Mid-afternoon, at anchor River Fal,
Not another boat at anchor in sight, Stretched out in the cockpit having a
afternoon snooze. When crash, Your rudely woken by another yacht banging into you whil'st trying to anchor almost on top of you,Excuse was, sorry the wind caught the bow,What do you say?

Dandy-Hole at anchor for the night,In your bunk almost asleep you hear another
yacht arrive,Then the rattle of a anchor chain,Sit up look out the window and
all you can see is white,
There is newish Benetau about ten feet away. You stick your head out of the hatch, And he says, Don't worry, I don't think we will touch in night.
What do you say?
Or do these things only happen to ME .

Hello Sailor !

Could it be that you are inadvertently flying a combination of flags from your yardarm that may mean some kind of special sexual welcome ???

I would check.

To be fair yachting is just too easy if you keep going for the easy option all the time.

I felt a little lonesome this year and decided to anchor in the middle of a mob of Maurice Griffiths enthusiasts. Things looked good until we all swung in the very early morning. I slept through the whole thing by the way. My bow got caught up with two yachts rafted up. They both got up, untangled the mess, let more of my chain out. One of them left a littled later and even sailed off so as not to wake me up.

Now that's the East Coast for you !

p.s. The best way not to forget your wife's birthday
is to forget it once !

My sentiments exactly.
But the question has to asked,
Why do they do it ? Is it poor seamanship,
Lack of respect or both.

Re: Out here we have ...

rather bulky chaps with crew-cut hair and black leather jackets who tear arms and legs off for a joke ....

TRue !

But of course we in true Brit style ..... sort of wave a bit, call out 'I say old chap - do you mind moving a little, seems awfully close you know .....' when he fails to understand or just shrugs his shoulder ... it gets down to the 'F--k o-- before I get angry !' style !!!!

Then of course why do they do it ......

Have money - buy a boat. Downpayment is leave your brain behind.......

Probably both and more!. The more I read this forum, the more mental notes I make about I must remember to do this, or I must remember NOT to do that etc. when I get my first sailing boat in January (after many years of motor cruisers) It is full of really experienced guys, and I am learning a great deal all the time (even though I don't always agree with their sentiments). Perhaps if more of these unthinking folks read these postings, there would be a lot less of such incidents

Ugly Gorilla

Well, just thought he must be a Hannibal Lector lookalike if he anchors up in the middle of a crowd, proceeds to get caught up with a couple of them, they then untangle as quietly as possible and get as far away from him as possible before he wakes up! @,'-)#

It not what you say but how you say it once you have your nice new gleaming sailing yacht you will have to take sailing communications 101 topics will include
STARBOARD said in a loud and forceful way to all racers
WATER to all racers
MIND YOUR WASH to all power boats regardless of what speed or how close they are.
WHY IS YOUR FLAG STILL FLYING to all flying their ensigns 1 nanosecond after sunset, time fully adjusted for GMT sunset eg Bristol is 4 minutes out
How to swear but without appearing to

etc
