'scuse me if I seem a bit dim! What age of boat do you class as a classic. Is it classic design or a boat of a certain age. I only ask this as my insurer as suggested changing my policy for a classic policy. OK the boat was designed back in the early sixties, but was actually built in the eighties!

A few pointers would be welcome, thanks for your time.

Don't worry about the boat; look at the policy. Does it give you any better service / protection or is it more applicable to your boat than a standard policy? It is unlikely to be cheaper than a standard policy. What are the differences between it and a normal policy? These are the questions to be asking.

Peter.

welcome to "the swan murderers classic boat squadron"

some is... some ain't.... yours....is.

but see if you can get an agreed value, yours is a very well looked after, tidy boat. it belies its design and its build age very well. just up from my mooring is another... don't look like the same boat at all! £100 tops!

HI Barry

When an insurer suggests changing something you bells should start to ring! I have no dought that if your boat becomes a classic they will ask for more money as it's more risk.
I do not consider my 1975 RLM a classic, so yours to me is almost new!
Mind some boats look as old as the hills as some people forget you have to clean them,or as I see this year is it trendy to get someone else to clean your boat!

Happy sailing

Thats what I thought originally, Just another way to hike the premium up. Surprised tho, that it as actually come down by 40ish quid. I said that I wanted to see the difference in cover first. I'm waiting for that to come through before I make any decisions.

Oh by the way, I've still got that Nasa if you still want it, but I've lost your number tho!!

Policy wordings

Just a guess, but I rather fancy that the issue here is constructive total loss and cost of repairs. In 1987 my boat suffered some damage in the October storm; the cost of repairs easily exceeded the insured value, which was what I had bought her for. I have never heard of a "classic boat" policy, but I do wonder if it might be something other than a standard marine policy with an agreed value?

Re: Policy wordings

We had this problem this year, our insurer decided they did not want to re-insure as it was now a classic yacht, built 1972.

Broker went to Knox Jonson, but the interesting thing is they insure it layed up, but will not quote a in water price till the boat is in the water next year.

Freinds have had the same problem with KJ, is this a new trend ??
