Well, that\'s good then...

<Believed to be the largest production sailing yacht from a UK builder, the first Oyster 82 was launched at Southampton Yacht Services (SYS) on December 8.

All 120 staff of the Oyster owned SYS yard turned out to watch the first of this new class of deck saloon Oyster take to the water under the watchful eye of Oyster's chairman and founder, Richard Matthews, and the yacht's British owner. The yacht, named Cygnus, floated exactly as expected.<

Bet that was a relief

well cos some divot who was taken on from dagenham was probably asked to fit the engine in an effort to keep costs down
so will he have remembered all his lessons from his one day course on water inlets?

Do you mean they didn't quietly launch her the night before, draw in the marks then bask in glory when she settle back on to them at the official bash - its the way it used to be done

Re: Well, that\'s good then...

Just prior to the launch of our boat the yard phoned me and asked if I would object if they quickly dropped the boat in the water to get the waterline before they painted the boot topping and antifouled. Of course I said it was ok - fortunately so, because the next day I got a call which started out "I don't know how to tell you this, but...".

The real launch was delayed while they moved the keel back 900 mm to get the trim right!
