Been looking at heating systems for a merryfisher 925. I am having difficulties in deciding in gas, diesel and now i see there is a QL VOLVO engine attachment hot air blower similar to what cars have!! The heating i want is only for when cruising not the type that can automatically come on and off. What is the best? any pitfalls to be aware of??? thanks in advance . Also i see in the merryfisher there is two vents at the windscreen, are these only to supply the demisting effect via passive convection from the engine bay?

If your boats a diesel then go for diesel heating.

Anything with a volvo badge on is £££££, id go for webasto anyway as the new design unit is just split into 3 parts, very uncomplicated to service, virtually no parts req to service, just keep the ignition pin clean, it will last for years and be trouble free if fitted correctly.

Have you looked at Propex,about half the cost of diesel installation ,only OK of course in you have gas on board.

If you only want heating when underway, fit something like the Volvo system. It uses the hot water in the fresh water cooling circuit, just the same as in a car and costs nothing to run. Of course, it will only work whilst the engine is up to temp. The MF screen demisters also work from the fresh water cooling circuit.

I have a MF805 and assuming your system is the same as mine :

The heater matrix is too small to adapt for cabin heating and the fan is also not powerful enough. The matrix and fan are located under the fore cabin wardrobe. The pipework runs from the engine, to the calorifier, to the demister and then returns to the engine. The calorifier is located beneath the port side of the main cabin floor, where the batteries are housed. There are also shut off valves for the demister and calorifier, so it should be a simple job to fit the Volvo style heater inline. There should be room to fit the heater in this compartment.

Very good heaters the matrix blowers
they heat the cabin from engine coolant circuit whilst engine is running,
I connected up my old boats system to three matrix heaters and also had a mikuni MX60 diesel water heater so that the system operates whilst not running the engine, keeps the boat nice and warm and calorifier hot also all the time I was onboard.

Just looking at another system for my neighbours boat using MX40 to heat calorifier and 2 x matrix heaters and WWW.YACHTBOATPARTS.COM seems to have best prices so far, spoke to Mark who runs it and he has fitted quite a few systems and has advised to fit extra header tank to permit expansion of extra water in the system which will be connected to the engine circuit too. They have given me a good price for the heater and kit so far and are also supplying an engine service kit for my boat and my neighbours boat.

I've had both eber & weby on previous boats, & am going for weby on latest one. Just better IMHO.
