We have a distinguished neighbour again this year

A couple of days ago a man came to repair our Dyson vacuum cleaner. He told me had previously worked as a marine cover maker/upholsterer and had repaired her seat cushions.

Alright, alright, I give up. What are you talking about. I see a big mobo in the pics but...

What is distinguished about her? Or is it her owner?

I enjoyed those pics, thanks.

Interesting to see all the cranes along the wharves. So different now.

I remember watching the funeral on tv (in scratchy black and white). As a 9 y.o., it was my closest dealing with death, and I found it very scary.

I also remember (though possibly incorrectly), that the state funeral was the first day time TV broadcast. It certainly seemed very odd to have the tv on.

I think you'll find that the coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 predated Winston's funeral and was televised live. I don't know if there were any daytime broadcasts, other than the test card, before the coronation, but the technical challenge of live outside broadcasting prior to the advent of solid state electronics must have been substantial.

By the time of Winston's funeral, I had already built several transistor radio at home, the latest sporting a loudspeaker rather than headphones.

A recent TV program dispelled the myth that the dockers operated the cranes out of respect. As I recall it was a bit acrimonious concerning Overtime payments. Dockers for you.
