Ways to rig poled out Genoa

By far the best option is to use a separate sheet for running through the pole. Apart from anything else, for running generally want the sheet to come from pole to near the stern (typically using spinnaker sheet blocks) as the usual sheeting position is too far inboard and forward.

Interesting, I hadn't really thought about that. Do you find it puts a big compression load on the pole if the sheet is too far forward? And/or too much friction and chafe at the pole end?

Never had the slightest problem just snapping the sheet into a snatch block, loads are minimal, not like you're cranking in the jib as bar tight as possible upwind. Quick and easy. Though not a big boat.

Yes it's probably very boat specific.
My genoa tracks are a joke, they're on the coaming so don't extend very far forward.

Yes, very boat specific. Our genoa tracks are on the side decks and very long. The spinnaker turning blocks are only just behind the genoa turning blocks.

It will depend on angles and loads - but seen a few boats that sheared the pole track rivets off the mast due to sideways pressure on a long trade winds sail. Was told by riggers in Caribbean that this was a common issue
