Could someone please help? I have a motorboat with a pair of volvo TAMD 72 diesel engines. Unfortunately one of them keeps either dropping or twisting it's alternator belts.
The official volvo mechanics feel that the main pullies need replacing, i think the alternator mounts need replacing.
Have any of you had this problem with your engines, or have ideas as to what i should do?
Help will be greatly appreciated!

Firstly, check pulleys are lined up, I have had Volvo's in the past, where the pulleys are slightly offset. This can be enough to cause belts to "flip over" or come off.

The bracket that the main bolt goes through goes into the cylinder head, it also bolts the from lift eye to it behind and under the water header tank, there is another bolt on the bracket as well, check that all bolts are actually there as they may be putting too much load on the alternator bolt, it also has a steel tube to go through, it sounds as though it is worn oval due to being loose at sometime,as the alternator is facing backwards it is difficult to see any misalignment, fit 2 new belts and see what happens.
