Volvo TAMD 41B 200hp.....any good?

I have a pair of AD41s in a Sunseeker Thunderhawk 43. Before buying I was concerned that it would be underpowered but this was not the case. The boat will comfortably cruise at 22 knots with 8 people on board and a full tank of diesel (750L) at 2800RPM.

Everyone I speak to says that these engines are bomb-proof. I havent owned mine for long, but so far I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Cruising for 3 hours at 2600 RPM the boat averaged 40L/hour fuel consumption.

Good luck

Hi. I want to get one of my Tam41 turbos overhauled. Anything I should be careful of when removing from the engine or anything that is difficult?
Any feedback appreciated.

Don't waste your time/money overhauling turbos, the exhaust housing rots away. buy new ones, not hard to replace, the internet is your friend.

The text in my workshop manual says:-

Removing turbocharger

If the turbocharger unit is to function satisfactorily, it
is vital that the engine's lubrication system be main-
tained and that the correct type of lubricating oil be
used, see Workshop manual "Technical data".
Replace the engine oil and oil filter before removing
the turbocharger (TC), so that the engine can be rurn
for a few minutes with the new oil.
NOTE! Determine the causes of replacement when
replacing the turbocharger. Then remedy any faults
before installing the new turbocharger (TC)
If the turbocharger unit is to function satisfactorily, it
is vital that the engine's lubrication system and
intake system be maintained, that replacements of
engine oil, the oil filter and air filter are carried out at
the correct intervals and that the correct type of
lubricating oil be used.

Some years back we did a repower on a Commercial boat and the 41 we took out had done 9000 hrs with no major repairs just regular servicing.

Hello, recently bought a boat with the TAM D 41A Engine. However, I dont have a service manual, does anyone have this or know where I could download it. Looked online loads and found nothing. Cheers

for all intents and purposes the 41A and the 41B are the virtually the same, main difference being the B had some modifications to reduce smoke, think this was mainly in the cylinderhead design dept.
It is based on its older brother the 40 series with a power increase. For most servicing purposes the engines are fairly similar.Oil quantity filters etc.
There is a manual available online, a search of forum posts within last few weeks should produce a working link.
