Re: More advanced electronics translated into boatspeak means

I always do on my boat. Mind you, with the "dumbing" down of antifoul these days I don't think it's that much ofr a problem. The copper content on most antifouls has dropped if not been removed altogether!

You can tell if you have the inferior anodes....they will still be there intact!! Also if you buy a genuine mercruiser one and hold it in one hand and then the same inferior one the cheap one is heavier. It is also shinier and the shapes are slightly different.
You can fit and extra mercathode the best kit to fit involves drilling two holes approx 6-8" to each side of the drive and and screw the kit to transom. Wire up unit inside. I am off today but i will get a part number and post on here tomorrow for anyone who may require it.

I think i do still want the Volvo, but talking to a lot of people, they tell me the Mercruiser is a far better advanced engine.

We all work hard to enjoy our boats, and i don't want to have a constant worry, is the B3 ok? You know what i mean??

If they have changed it, Then it will probably be the choice, I will be seeing a Brand new B3 at the end of the month, so i will see what anodes its got.

I am currently waiting for a price for the bigger Volvo options,
My aim is to get the biggest engine i can afford.
The Merc 350Mag, is an Extra £2k.
But i am 'pushing the boat out' to be able to afford a new boat in the first place!!!! so to speak!!!

Alistair,

The new Bravo 3`s are all coming through withthe new style anodes extra on prop shaft and secondary on the cavitation plate.
The mercathode system has not changed...i would recommend a second one fitted just because.
To let you know also Mercruiser changed the external design of the Bravo units around August last year. The tell tale is the graphics will say Mercury on the transom instead of the `M` logo. And the upper unit is now very curvy.
The serial number will be OW260???? and above. If its not it aint the latest drive style.

The 350 Mag has MerCruiser designed intake manifold, Motorola PCM 555(ECM), Smart craft enabled engine which can run GPS depth and a multi function one piece screen with engine data, Engine has engine guardian with the most amazing software which senses anything to enable the engine to get home if you pick bad fuel, overheat(unless impeller gone), spark plug down....it compensates itself.

You Described the 350 Mag as having all of the above, Does the basic Package of the 5.0L MPI, B3. Have any of this technology? I.E Engine Guardian?

The 350 would be nice, but if the Purse can't strech to it, Its betweem the Merc 5.0L MPI, and the Volvo 5.0L GXI DP.
