Roomer has it that somebody from Volvo checks this forum to see what’s going on. We never see them logged on so the must be out there somewhere lurking.
Come on Volvo lurker person (note the political correctness), log in and have a chat. You’ve taken a lot of stick lately maybe you’d like to put your side of the stories and possibly answer a few of the comments. At the moment it looks like Ghengis Kahn is alive and well as head of the Volvo customer relations department. I’ve driven umpteen miles in your cars and trucks and never had a problem. Why all these problems with this one section of your operation. Come out and talk to us. Maybe we could arrange a get together. Please, not the boat show where your stand is populated with the most ill informed members of your staff. All spouting the same line, “sorry the person you need to see is not available”.
Give us some credit. As you can see from the posts there are some pretty intelligent and well-informed people here. Come and talk to us. Explain to us why it all seems to go wrong with the after sales service.
At the moment seeing the word Volvo in an advert is a negative selling point. Maybe we could show you the areas where you’re not quite producing what your market wants. It’s a fact that your marketing department needs some new input. Maybe a chat here or in a pub somewhere could benefit us all.

Yeah ok. All the negative stuff lately about volvo. Over priced they maybe. Down right stupid. Not!

Wha'dya mean "I'm always playing with this engine" its the only way to get it to run!

If we do have a lurker from vp then maybe he will react to this, I have just been out to Portugal to fit 2 new engines to a Broom 44, the latest 75 series engines from vp, now the old 71b series came out atreat, engine bay all cleaned and painted up, new engines inspected to find a bolt missing from the raw water pump, paint missing from the sumps, still actually wet in places, Richard will know all about this.
New engines craned in and connected, starboard started up to spew gearbox oil all over the place, plug missing from the valve block so old engines robbed to make headway, sea trial down to Lagos 30 miles, no boost pressure, swapped senders and gauges, still nothing, turned out to be the supply pipe from inlet manifold had not been tightened up.

Now the good thing about this swap was that this boat a Broom 44 was transformed from a 16 knot lame duck to a 30.5 knot sports boat performer, its smooth 100% smokefree and thanks to the men who make the props and shafts for Fairline the 5 blades are excellent, anyone who has an old boat that they love it is well worth an engine swap to the latest stuff, it will make it a new boat in the machinery dept for a fraction of the cost of a new boat, I will update any news later but it just shows to check out even new stuff before it goes in.

What you just describe was probably what started with me from new - Raw water pump leaking with no paint on the Sump.

I hope you painted the sump, otherwise could be tear later on.

Still amazes me with two new engines you found those faults, is there no checks done by Volvo before sending them out.

Rich, when the engine is 25ft in the air hanging over a 250K boat by some Portuguese marinero there was no time to discuss putting a bit of paint on the shiny bits I can tell you, it was a matter of getting it in the hole in the roof before we pushed our luck any further, you see the boat was still in the water so can you picture the sight when the straps break, 10mm of fibreglass bottom aint gonna stop 1 ton of engine I can tell you, and I would have been the first one out of the way!.

Re: dont worry about sump paint

Yes would agree Paul. Main thing is to get them installed, no need to worry about a bit of scratched paint on a sump, that won't do any harm imho

Re: sump painting - vitally important surely?

I wd have thought it extremely important indeed to ensure that the sump paint is kept in very good order, especially with volvos, and this triggers rust problems, then more rust problems as the rust spreads throughout the entire engineroom, and so might invalidate warranty claims or cause other ££££problems ? :-0

Re: sump painting - vitally important surely?

Just reading this thread and had to post a reply i am here in co wicklow Ireland and I bought a second hand boat with a vp 260B engine unit .It is a 1986 unit but the amount of phone calls to try and sort out some info and parts. I am sure I am not the only owner of this engine as they were ,I believe quite common . So why Can'nt I get any info from volvo agents . Surely the agencies are checked and should be able to supply parts for anything more than two years old.
