Hi all
I would like to add a temperature gauge to my Volvo Penta D1-40. The original one in around 250. In the shop next to my yard they have a lot of aftermarket gauge, much cheaper. The question is, will they show the correct temperature, with the stock sender?

Are you sure you have a D1-40? .... there is a VP D2-40 or a D1-13, D1-20, D1-30?

First decide if you want an analogue (reads directly from an analogue sensor) or a digital gauge (connected to the bus from the rev counter) ... you need an EVC version of the engine for digital.

If EVC then Volvo digital is the best option IMO and if analogue, then buy a matching sender and gauge but you will need to find a point in the cooling system to screw in the sensor and you will have a bit of wiring to do. Re-use of the coolant sensor already fitted may screw up the Volvo overheating alarm and warning light.

The digital EVC gauges just plug into the loom from the rev counter .... like this:

I went digital .... it looked like this

The additional panel was sourced from Signs and Labels Direct - Signs Made Easy, Delivery in 24hrs. using their panel builder tool.

The gauges were sourced from Home - Coastalrides and were way cheaper than sourced from Volvo.

My review here .... Google review of Coastal Rides by Nick Hewitt

I had to source the bezels and a few other parts from Volvo Penta as the gauges come without bezels.
