One of my AD41 volvo engines overheated at the weekend any ideas as to the cause. Cruising at 26 knots`alarm goes off ,temp gauge at 190 degrees.
Fresh water system seems OK. Impeller doing its job OK.Salt water coming in but I wonder if it is not circulating . Raw water strainer is full and overflows when the engine is shut off and the lid taken off, this does not hapen to the engine which is running OK. Any ideas as to the problem ? How do you tell if Raw water is circulating properly ?

Sound like it might be a blocked heat exchanger. They do require rodding out now and again.

It just might be the raw water is not getting out fast enough through the Exhaust elbow due to rust & soot needs a rod out. it worked for me I had same problem.

This may be worth as look, I had the same problem last year with some AD41s, what had happened was two parts of the impellor fins had broke off and dropped into the water intake just below the impellor, and as soon as I put some revs on the impellor parts were sucked up and blocked the water intake channel just below the impellor. but this only happened at higher revs.
Proberbly not this but worth a look
