We are taking Rafiki to Poole first weekend in May for the Bournemouth Gin Fesival ?. We aim to get a taxi to the Festival. So I'm looking for recommendations please?

Most of the marinas also do mooring and I know Poole Quay Boat Haven or whatever it's called these days has some. Dorset Lake Shipyard also has some and Parkstone Yacht Club are very friendly and will try to accommodate you. Also try Parkstone Bay Marina (you'll have the benefit of a water taxi or somewhere secure to leave the tender with them).

Just ring round and see what you get is the normal process I believe. http://www.pooletourism.com/go.php?structureID=pages&ref=I4851419EB1E64

The Haven on the quay is the most convenient. Taxi outside or 10 minutes walk to the station for either bus or train direct to Bournemouth.

Agree with Tranona Poole quay Boat Haven https://www.poolequayboathaven.co.uk/ for a few days would be most convenient for a short stay. Facilities are good, local restaurants just a stones throw away and taxi + other transport close at hand. Cobbs Quay (MDL) also worth a look at especially if you are already berthing at an MDL site as your stay could be free, they're always the best stays :)

We are local Poolites and are also going to the festival, really looking forward to it

Agree with the Quay Haven as the best if you're taking a berth but if you want a mooring surely it's about where the mooring is - some of the Haven's moorings are over by the Wych Channel. There's a water taxi to the Haven as part of the service but it doesn't run that late so I'd check the times first.

I suspect the word "mooring" in the OP might be a red herring.

A taxi to Bournemouth and back will be pricey, just to warn you..

Agree. Traffic from Poole to Bournemouth Centre can be very heavy at times. There is a frequent bus service from Poole Bus Station to Bournemouth Square which is only a 5 minute walk to The Pavillion Theatre/Ballroom where the Gin Festival is being held. The service ( M1 and M2 ) runs late into the night at weekends.

poole to bournemouth;
train - just a few stops up the line and poole station is about 1/2mile along the high street from the quay, but B-mouth town is a little bit of a slog from the station that end.
I'd jump in a taxi, I'd say £20 each way would be about right, about 20minutes in regular traffic.
Or cadge a lift from a local :) I'll oblige if around. P

Unfortunately, my plans for the coming weekend look to be going down the heads, unless there is a dramatic upturn in the weather. Strong winds are forecast for Friday and the weekend, and we want the trip to be fun, not a mission. Unless we get a significant improvement, Poole will have to wait for another day. Shame!

The weather forecasters must have a difficult job on these last few days. Speaking to work colleagues yesterday it was apparent that within a 60 mile radius we all had different weather. Makes boat planning very frustrating!

Rotten luck, we had the same this weekend, tried quite hard to get round the windy corner so we could scoot down weather to Weymouth, but gave up before we even got to Swanage and settled for two days exploring our home town again.

It will delay us, but not stop us Phil. We need to get to Poole to see your new boat :)
