Hello Everyone,

I haven’t posted on here for a while, but occasionally still lurk around.

Some of you may still remember me, but for those of you who don’t, or have joined recently, a brief introduction is in order. Our boat is a Fairline Phantom 43, which we’ve now had for ten years and keep in Helsinki, Finland. Our summer cruises usually take us west to the Archipelago Sea, which spans over 500 square kilometres and consists of over 10.000 islands. It is located on the south-western corner of Finland, between the mainland and the Åland Islands.

It is a very nice area for boating, but suffers slightly from the wintery six month period which is usually less welcoming weather wise.

Anyway, in the past I've often posted pics and vids of our boating on these cruising grounds, and now I just finished putting together this video of our cruising in 2022. This year we bought a new toy, a Seadoo Spark, which was great fun for enjoying the sea. I believe we mostly managed to use it responsibly without causing too much annoyance among our fellow boaters :).

Already looking forward to summer 2023.

As always Scubaman, ace vid, thanks for posting. Your cruising area is amazing, so many options for you to choose (y)
The Seadoo looks a great addition. I assume the Hurley davit lifts it easily enough, do you have the manual winch or the motorised winch for the Hurley davit ?

What a great video, thank you very much for posting!

Can I ask what drone/camera you were using?

I have the manual winch which works fine for me. The part that requires a bit of effort is when the ski is winched up on the pole and you need to pull it down and swing it to the right. Due to space restriction, I can’t have the pole fully extended which means the weight sits a bit too much on the back. This makes it a bit heavy. Fine for me, but I’m not sure the others would be able to pull it up. Not sure my explanation makes sense, but hopefully you got the idea.

Thank you. My drone is a mavic air 2, I also used my Canon R6 and a GoPro on the radar arch of the boat. The drone still struggles with the high contrast water/boat scenes. Or I should say I struggle with it, as you can cope with it with a bit of manual adjusting.

Excellent work with the Drone. I have the Air 2, Air 2s and the Mine 3 Pro and I get too scared taking video like that. Were you flying manually of using the tracking facilities

I always fly manually, I just find a less hassle. But that’s mainly because I haven’t bothered with learning how to best use the various automated features. I’m sure there are some excellent tricks they can do. There’s something to learn next summer.

That is some professional gear and it definitely shows in the video!

Maybe I can also ask you about the Hurley davit system. I think yours is probably the H3O system and I was wondering if you were required to install any reinforcement to the bathing platform in order to accommodate this? I've seen people mount even heavier watercrafts than the Seadoo Spark and I've been wondering if there's any potential long term risk of gelcoat cracking etc. but I've never had a chance to ask our local dealer about general recommendations. We have a Princess v42 which could be large enough for Hurleys but I know that the gelcoat in the bathing platform is incredibly thin so not sure if it could hold!

Yes, it's the H30. I didn't reinforce it in anyway, I trusted the dealer who had experience of installations on F/line Phantoms. Luckily the two pairs of installation holes were either side of a beam on the inside of the platform. Also, I cut two large 3 mm stainless steel backing plates to spread the load. And further, I always put a timber block under the stern of the Seadoo for the same reason.

In practice, I haven't seen any flexing of the platform when picking up the ski or while under way. The said, I haven't yet had a look on the underside of the platform since the season ended. I'm planning to do that next time I go to the boat. Will report back if there is anything out of the ordinary.
