Vhf Navicom rt 750 ais

Does somebody have an advice about This vhf which is also an ais receiver ?

No idea about the 750 but I have used a 650 for several years without problems. I run the output into a 12v pc and OpenCPN where the AIS comes out well. You can also output the AIS wirelessly to a tablet. The 650 needs a GPS puck or GPS input from a plotter. I don't have a plotter so use a puck.

The 650 was small and easy to fit in its location.

sorry but what is a puck and how do you get the output wirelessly on a tablet.many thanks

The puck is a Globalsat BR-355 which I use. AngusMcDoon of this parish was selling small boxes to provide the 5v and connect up the data links to the puck some time ago. Very useful. I am sure there are other puck options these days.

I use the Yakker device on another boat I have where the AIS from the VHF is sent to an android tablet.

I have a cheapskate attitude to electronics and find that that approach does me fine.

The Navicom brand isn't generally available in the UK, so responses might be limited. The RT750AIS is keenly priced, but it doesn't have NMEA2000 and it's probably worth spending a bit more to get a better specification. In particular, NMEA2000 connectivity is something to look for, as it not only allows "plug'n'play" but also gives some future-proofing. Many new plotters are only able to connect via NMEA2000, and this trend will continue. Navicom also have the RT1050, which has a touch screen, has NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 connectivity, has built-in AIS receiver, and can be used to display other information on the NMEA2000 network. AD have it for 422 euros at the moment. Might be worth a look.
