I've just completed a vhf/dsc course, and am still confused about 1 thing. Do I need to register my boat to get a call sign?. Is this necessary as my boat is only 20ft long, where do I register..........

Thanks in advance for your help.

Paul (Southampton).

You need a license for the radio in the boat, if it is a fixed one, or for a portable if handheld.

Get it from Ofcom (used to be Radiocommunications agency), details on http://www.Ofcom.org.uk

So the full answer to your question is No. You don't need to register your boat but you do need to apply for a licence for whatever radio you have got. When you are sent this you will also be given your callsign.
