Delighted with the new vetus hose in the heads except . . .

No matter how much I tighten the hose clips on the 19mm inlet to the Jabsco spigot, it remains free to turn or slide off.

The Jabsco pump connections have no barbs like those on the seacock hose tail, and the smooth inner bore of the hose would seem to make this inevitable.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so what did you do?

I have a set of taps and dies to thread both internal and external plastic pipes and fittings.

This sort of thing:

https://www.temu.com/ul/kuiper/un9....MIms_VwcbqiwMVqqRmAh1R0RasEAQYASABEgKzRfD_BwE
and

this

Gewindewerkzeug-Set, 1 Stück, Rohrgewindebohrer HSS G1/8 1/4 1/2 Stecker, Gewindebohrer, Handbohrer, Kegelrohrgewindebohrer, Schnellarbeitsstahl - AliExpress 1420

you can try UK Temu, they cost peanuts.

You can thread the external of your, male, spigot, thread an apropriately sized, female, fitting with a barbed end or simply use a hose clamp on the threaded male piece. You can now glue your new piece of plumbing with your thread sealer of choice (whatever you have in your bag of tricks -

I am sure there is a UK supplier of such devices, Temu is Chinese.

And you can take a picture of the Temu devices and ask google to match the images.

I have a set, to make plumbing fittings, but I don't know if my, easily available set, has the right sizes for you.

If you would like pictures of my devices - ask and then patiently wait a day or so and I'll post.

I wonder if you have a slight metric/imperial mismatch. Smooth sanitary spigots are tricky on size. The correct size smooth hose will be secure.

I find it unlikely that Jabsco made imperial cludgies in 2018?

The new hose is the same nominal ID as the old non-Vetus hose.

Not in the water until next week, but assuming no leaks I have decided I will use a strategically placed cable tie as a backup, and/or awol's self amalgamating tape idea.

The idea of the pump outlet hose shooting off during a dark middle of the night pee doesn't bear thinking about.

The 19mm smooth spigot you refer to on the Jabsco heads pump is the water inlet so there is no pressure, just a small vacuum, so it can't "shoot off". Or do you mean the spigot on the back rim of the bowl or the outlet, as both of those in mine have a single barb to grip the hose.

I mean the outlet from the pump which goes to the bowl (via a vented loop)

There IS a single barb, but the barb is low profile and I can tighten the hose clips to the max and it can still be slid off.

This is a known problem with European hoses on Jabsco heads. Xylem is a US company and imperial pipe and tube sizes are not considered a kludge in the US. Although metric fasteners and electrical components are fairly common in the US, metric pipe is scarce as hen's teeth. Obviously, 19 mm is not a standard size, it is an attempt to fit 3/4-inch. I suggest putting calipers on both the hose and the spigot.

Better clips?

Good luck.

So Jabsco DO make imperial cludgies. Every day's a schoolday.

19mm is 2 thou SMALLER than 3/4", so I don't think that is the issue. The problem is that the inner part of the Vetus hose is super slippery and incompressible.

I reckon the self-amalgamating tape or cable tie will fix it, but will xait until we are in the water and I am sure there are no leaks.

I'm not very keen on the clips Sopromar have sold me (at €4 each!) so will also try to sourcr new clips or bring them back next time we are coming to Portugal from the UK.

I just took apart a complex toilet system which consisted of many pieces of Vetus pipes, all were barely hanging on except to the barbed connection on the seacock.

If I was putting it back, I think I would include some sikaflex.

Interesting, good to know it is not just me!

BTW, I thought you misspelled kludge (it is sometimes spelled cludge in the US), rather than used an expression (cludgie) that I didn't know. We are forever two countries separated by a common language. Since we were talking about heads, it could have been either (Jabsco is not that highly regarded), since they are often spelled the same. Funny:ROFLMAO:

noun: cludgie; plural noun: cludgies
  1. a toilet or bathroom.
"he took turns at cleaning the cludgie in the flat"
noun: kludge; plural noun: kludges; noun: kluge; plural noun: kluges; noun: cludge; plural noun: cludges
  1. an ill-assorted collection of parts assembled to fulfill a particular purpose.

The hot water treatment is not to make it easier to get the pipe on the spigot, it is to make it pliable enough for the jubilee clip (other marques are available) to tighten the hose onto the spigot. PLease try it before applying unguents or adhesives.
