I use HiGrip stainless hose grips, they are excellent as are genuine Jubilee clips - don't use cheapy chinese ones, they are crap.
Can you post a pic of the clips, as I strongly suspect this to be your issue. A decent clip made to BS5315 is designed to seal onto completely smooth spigots, as indeed that is the required test.So Jabsco DO make imperial cludgies. Every day's a schoolday.
19mm is 2 thou SMALLER than 3/4", so I don't think that is the issue. The problem is that the inner part of the Vetus hose is super slippery and incompressible.
I reckon the self-amalgamating tape or cable tie will fix it, but will xait until we are in the water and I am sure there are no leaks.
I'm not very keen on the clips Sopromar have sold me (at €4 each!) so will also try to sourcr new clips or bring them back next time we are coming to Portugal from the UK.

The working torque of a 20mm clip made to BS5315 (as Jubilee are) is in the region of 5Nm. You should not need a socket to get to that torque. There is limited gain to tightening the clip beyond the working torque.Genuine Jubilee clips, tightened up with a socket should secure it.
Oh, excuse me, i'm new to spanners and screwdrivers, only been using them for 50 years or so.The working torque of a 20mm clip made to BS5315 (as Jubilee are) is in the region of 5Nm. It's ok. I'm new to hose clips too. We've only been making them for 60 years.Oh, excuse me, i'm new to spanners and screwdrivers, only been using them for 50 years or so.

Get it warm enough and you'll have no further problems.I am in the Algarve. No difficulty getting the hose on, it is keeping it on!
The Vetus hose is super slippery inside. Everyone comments how easy it slides on.
