So now we know the sailor is rescued, what about his boat?
Does anyone go and check that it is not a hazard to shipping, possibly floating just below the surface?

Considering there was a 'fly by' with TV pictures last time I wonder if the French Navy position a frigate in the area for the race or just happened to be in the area.

If they do position one there that is very sporting of them.
Le Nivose is based at La Reunion, I should imagine the Kergeulen islands are in her patrol area.

One thing that surprised me about this incident is that the survival kit in the life raft did not include a PLB type device.

I am pretty sure that the top of the range liferafts that I see when fantasy chandlery shopping include these as part of the kit.

I suppose that these racers obsess about reducing weight in the boat but still......

I am also surprised that they don't have personal EPIRBS permanently attached to their seasuits.

The events also give me the idea of having a handheld GPS that can run on batteries in my grab bag. I sort of assumed that Ii would have time to pick up the boat VHF but - 4 seconds!

I strongly suggest that Ravi has not been in a life raft for any length of time, or in any poor sea state.(n)

Well, yes. Once upon a time, I taught that stuff..... and not in a swimming pool. But it doesn't matter.

As for "the 'banana' he talks about is the Silzig buoy "... so that's what it's called! I'd seen those draped across the sterns of a number of 'protos' in Douarnenez. Every day a schoolday...
