Valencia F1 Grand Prix

I was watching qualifying whilst at work today (ahem) which was probably a good thing, seeing as I would've been blotto'd had I been having a drink every time I saw JW!

I do hope you have the best of time tomorrow. I bet you will.

Yep, John
We've had a sweep stake and guess who I drew - Webber!!

I reckon a good skipper that has picked a great berth, set up the satelites/TV/Raymarine so well, deserves at least two draws!

Don't worry mike, if Webber gets a good start and his car goes as fast as the Vet's (once they get its problem sorted - just add 1.5s to his times) who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised.......!

Have a great evenning and thoroughly enjoy the race tomorrow, should be great. Hope the Brits does well too, of course.

Actually, ice has been one of our concerns.
The ice maker only runs off the generator
So we have been running the A/C as an excuse to make ice
It's a hard life

Water was a concern but it seems to be lasting

We have to be off early on Monday to get the kids back to SC for their flights on Tuesday
Maybe SWMBO and I can relax a little next week after cleaning the boat

Weather looks good for our return on Monday so all going to plan.

Off to some bars tonight and an exciting time tomorrow.

Mike

Hmm the last time I went to a bar there it turned out all the singers whilst very pretty all used the men's ... I forget the name but have the pix.

Cracking town.

Bloody hell. GP2 went down to the wire!

Fingers crossed for later this afternoon :)

Henry :)

Meant to add the sky looked very dark.

Do you have umberelas on board just in case ;)

Hurricane
Did you have to book that berth in advance or did you just turn up?
I thought it would be packed out with boats but apparently not.

Race finished - just cracked a bottle or two of bubbly - while the kids finish listening to Jake and Eddie, I have a few mins to post before we de-flag and get ready for an early start home tomorrow.

The answer to the berthing questions

We booked in advance but I think you would have got a berth if you just turned up.
Having said that, there are two distinct areas - the outer harbour/marina and the inner basin.
We were, obviously, in the inner basin where there are three zones.
Zone 1 and 2 are stern to berths close to the track and on the T Dock where all the super yachts are berthed.

It seems to me that Zone 3, where we are, gives you a longer view of the track.
IMO better here than the other zones - indeed just before the race started, some boats came out of zones 1 and 2 to fill in the spaces in our zone.

Costs for this year as follows:-
Zone 3 - 20m was the smallest berth available - 2000 euros plus VAT (IVA)
At Valencia, they consider us as a 25m boat - that cost us 2500 euros plus tax.
My Marina manager at Sant Carles managed to negotiate a small discount for me but you can see its a significant figure.
However, you only live once and the fuel bill will be more so it all needs to be taken in context.

Maybe you find the costs interesting but if I were to take the family to a Grand Prix for a whole weekend in a good grandstand, including accommodation, I would probably be paying a similar figure.

Anyway, its been an experience SWMBO and I wont forget.

Congratulations on a successfull trip & obviously a great weekend.

I didn't get to see the race but was told it was very tight right till the end ;) :D

Looked great, and thank you for the updates. Great pics!

I watched some of the race, and was hoping the BBC would model their coverage on how they did the Thames Pageant - limited views of the boats and lots of peripherals. Thus I was expecting lots of views of Jenny Wren and an interview with skipper and crew. What happened?
