But then there was Trueville...

Much missed by me although at Blue Moment he has posted some more.....

I always found his tales interesting and as to whether he was / or is real well that's still open.

In the Navy I was in, it was called bull**** and he was seen for exactly what he was.

Lots of sailors I know reckon he was rubbish and as Ive spent more time at sea than he ever did I am inclined to agree :)

You can spend a lot of time at sea without actually being there . . . the Navy is not exactly the same as proper voyaging in small ships, although you may disagree.

I've spent less time at sea than you (almost certainly) but I may have a better idea of what being at sea is about. The Navy is nothing to do with small boat voyaging.

Well as you seem to want to know, I have logged over 120 thousand miles on yachts and 20 odd thousand on motorboats.

10 trans atlantics etc, etc. Lived aboard for the last 14 years......

That is not a yarn.

I may, therefore, have a vague idea.

Very good. Has anyone ever told you you look a bit like Tom Cunliffe?

Have you written up any of your voyaging?

I know a few things as a fact about Tristian Jones;

He was in Buenes Aries with Sea Dart in the 1975. I went sailing with him in Sea Dart just before she was hoisted aboard the ship I was on, back to UK.

He couldn't take his drink.

Sea Dart was impounded by customs demanding import tax/VAT at Newhaven. I still have the letter he sent me offering her for sale at £2,500.

He span a good yarn.

He had a dry sense of humour.

He was one of lifes true characters without whom the world is a lesser, duller place.

Honour? Rotten? What are you on about? Truth is how you see it. Everyone has different perceptions & different requirements from life.

You can read a dozen Biographies about the same person, but when they are written by different people, it will seem as tho you are reading about 12 different people. There is a long tradition of entertainment in telling stories & presenting them in an inspiring manner. I see little wrong with either concept.

What I "was on about" is jeanes ascertain that "so I hope that this post only serves to alert the reader to the possibility that even when you are curled up with a good book, someone is having you on."
Do we really need this patronizing rubbish?Tristan Jones (as far as I can see) has been proven to be an out & out liar.
Why anyone should want to resurrect this nonsense & give us a little lecture is completely beyond me.There are honest authors out there & we are not talking about auto biographies but tales that are described as first hand accounts searush. There is one hell of a difference
