Looking to buy a fishfinder, possibly a Garmin 100 or similar, (don't make a big thing out of fishing, but if the mood takes me, what the hey!).
Thing is, the boat has a transducer which is a thru hull type connected to a depth sounder, all in fine working order, what I want to know is can I tap into this 'ducer to supply the nec info to the fishfinder i.e are they all the same spec.
If that's not an option and I have to fit a transom mounted transducer, where do you take the measurements from regarding mounting? There is mounted already on the rear, a pitot tube for the speedo, do I fit the transducer next to it at the same height etc.? or is there a template guide supplied in the kit?

Ta in adv. Dave

Unlikely to be a compatable trasducer - keep it with the existing unit. You can even run both as interference is unlikely too.
The units are sold with skimmer (transom mount) 'ducers but are also sold with others if you specify and order - ie you could get another thru hull or even a shoot thru hull to 'stick on' the inside on th hull with epoxy etc. You can also mount the standard tranducer int eh same way if you have an appropriate clean, single hulled, not too thick area in the right place - I have done this with all my transducers for the last 6 years.
He's a picture taken in none to ideal conditions at 20 knots near Swanage to show that you still get a reasonable return. Normal 'ducer stuck on the inside of the hull with epoxy.
