Hi Folks, a copy of Tranas Navigator software has come into my posession. Having had a play, I have found it fairly non-intuitive and difficult to use. Has anyone else used it?

For example, the mouse mode has multiple modes and you have to keep changing it. I would like to plan a route at home to work out timings etc (no GPS connected). But the darn thing won't stay still, it keeps reverting to Florida (default location?). The manual is very skimpy, and I don't like having to learn software by reading endless help pages.

Is it worth pursuing?

I've used it (and its predecessor) for a few years now. It's an excellent piece of kit and provides fabulour 'you are here' stuff as well as interfacing with other kit and is good for passage planning. If you're worried about tides, you'll need the tidal optional extra and there's also weather to overlay on the chart too.

I suspect the reason why it is reverting back to Floida is that this is the default location without a GPS. Connect one and it will put you in the right place (as long as you have the chart permissions for the area).

Can't recomment it highly enough. Yes, it does take a bit of getting used to, but once you've played a bit with it, it really is a great bit of kit.

If you don´t have an GPS connected, you should enter DR (dead reckoning) mode, then you simply enter your ships position manually, and it will stay there.
I´ve been using Transas for two years now, and find it very nice!
But, for using it effectively, the manual must be read!

Re: Transas Navigator /tsunami99software

I am useless with confusers but have the cheapskates version of this (T99) with six free charts which cost 90 odd quid in total.Looked at all the competitors and the so called freeware available on the net.
Navigator is very useful and easy to use once you get the hang of it.
