Trailer stowage

the lighting set can go on the boat as long as it is at the very back, not up to high and the outboard does not cover the board in anyway

I think I am remembering something from the confusion that the current laws created when they were first introduced coupled with the requirement for an a illuminated marker board if the rear overhang is between 2m and 3.05m. Having an extension on the back of the trailer carrying the lighting board over comes that need and also the requirements to have an attendant and notify the Police if the overhang exceeds 3.05 m.

The regulations do say [ QUOTE ]
Trailers must have on the back two red sidelights, two red stop lamps, an illuminated number plate and two triangular red reflectors plus amber indicators designed to flash between 60 and 120 times per minute. If they are more than 1.3m wide, they must also have at least one red fog lamp.

[/ QUOTE ] I think that was interpreted as meaning that it must be fitted to the trailer rather than to the load.

Just as a matter of interest here in west oz all trailers must be separately registered so the trailer has a unique number plate supplied by licensing authority. (no matter how small)
It is a pain to ahve to pay registration and insurance each year about 30 squid for one or 2 very short trips in my case. Fortunately we don't have the equivalent of annual MOT however if you get pulled up and inspected in your car (or trailer) they almost certainly put a works order on the vehicle. Then you aree up for a full inspection which costs 40 squid plus of course all the repairs.
It's a little game they play with the young drivers in their bombs. Obviously they will always find something wrong. (usually oil leaks)
enough rant from the antipodes. (note how polite I am in not mentioning cricket?) olewill

Nope - no register for your small trailer - you can just pop down to your local seller and buy one ... no annual checks and you can swap it between towing vehicles - so long as you display the numberplate of the vehicle doing the towing (although that doesn't seem to matter much these days - unless I try it).

I was stupid enough to leave my West Mersea 270 combi trailer on top of the big boat trailer at the club (it is a reasonably secure location) and someone removed it for me ... they'd have a job removing the big trailer though ... they'd need a substantial vehicle right now as the front 2 of the 4 wheels are missing - and it is flamin heavy!
