About 3 x the budget sadly
Ocean quay. Immediately downstream of shamrock. (Not ocean village)Does anyone know any other - cheaper - marinas?
Well you could still make a mirror dinghy from scratch (or much more economically buy one of the many old ones) and throw it on your roof and boat for very little. The issue is, when you get to a vessel which requires “storage” then effectively you are renting land either ashore or afloat to keep your property. A drying mooring is usually the cheapest option, followed by swing moorings - but they cost rent to crown estates, maintenance, potentially a fee for keeping a dinghy somewhere etc - and can be very hard to find - precisely because they are cheaper options.Drivers is a non-starter sadly - £187 inc VAT per month + £62 every time they launch you - so if I launched 20 times in the season, that would be £3483 for the season - so that's out as well
Boating has really got beyond the reach of the "normal" man these days!
I’m not sure you could - anywhere in the south coast is likely to be that sort of money unless perhaps it is some sort of club running on a not for profit basis.I am pretty sure I could find a decent marina for less than that (although I understand the benefit of dry stack)
Is a small tractor any cheaper? If it was left at the yard that would seem to avoid the road tax (not sure what a tractor not being used for agricultural use pays even if you did take it on roads sometimes!) and might massively reduce insurance - probably need someone specialist. So still looking - Maybe Bucklers and the 4x4 is the way to go after all....
This. It will maximise your use of the boat guaranteed. I don't think you would regret it even if it's a bit more pricey.Yeh - it would be a stretch but the appeal of a walk on walk off pontoon is worth a premium
A car licence only cover you to drive a tractor for agricultural or forestry use. Any other use requires a goods vehicle licence. Is a small tractor any cheaper? I don't think the words "cheap" and "boating" are good bed fellows. So I hopefully have an offer accepted on a 24' cruiser that could go on a trailer.
I have my name on the queue for Buckers Hard - which is about £1000 a year to keep - the boat - the benefit being it's out the water 99% of the time, the disadvantage is having to launch every time and then needing a trailer and towcar to put it in and out with.
I was thinking this is a good solution - but with a Towcar likely to cost about £450 - £750 a year to tax and £450 to insure (plus fuel, maintenence etc) I figured I might be better off spending a bit more and keeping the boat either proper drystack on on a Marina.
However the choices are very very expensive. I've ruled out Cardiff drystack now - it's cheap (£1600 a year) but not sure Cardiff / Bristol Channel is a good place to cruise and I love the south coast.
SO
Does anyone know anywhere I can either drystack or trailer launch where THEY put it in, or a marina or even something like a mid-river or swing mooring that would cost no more than about £2000 for a 24' boat for 12 months.
Anywhere from the river Dart to Hamble really will be fine - maybe as far as Chichester.
Thank you
Yeh - for sure this will be higher - I can antifoul myself but lifting and scrubbing I couldn't.Dont forget if you keep it on the water to factor in the cost of antifoul and lifting on an occasional basis for a scrub off.
Foulks might be an option - mid river berth is bang on my top budget. Will need a tender - but at least it's a "proper" berth rather than a swing or trot.Or Foulkes? Top of the Hamble under the bridge?
I don’t know their prices but it looks as if it shouldn’t be too expensive
