Help! A few questions if I may;
Any trailer experts in here? I have a Snipe Trailer.

After discovering scratches on the gelcoat I noticed that some of the nylon(?) rollers on the trailer, appear to sit 'off center'. Being new to boating - am I correct in assuming these rollers require replacing at some point. It looks like they may have collapsed internally, or do these rollers have a larger hole than the spindles?

I have noticed some scratches just in front of a roller and wondered if this could be the cause. I plan to change them this weekend hopefully if I can source replacements, any ideas on approximate price range?

Is it a difficult job, I would rather attempt this in the garage at home with the boat on it. Is it safe to chock the boat up on one side?
They only seem to have a split pin holding them in, do the replacement pins have to be stainless steel?

most of the components are sourced by individual trailer companies- you dont need to use "snipe". I know there are different qualities of rollers and spindles, but the good ones are not cheap-but then they dont damage the gelcoat. The ones used on SBS trailers for example are about £20 per spindle*2 roller set(or I think about £5 per roller) so replacing a whole trailer is a fair expense. I think you are making an aweful lot of work for yourself by trying to do this with the boat still on. Apart from the awkwardness, you can be sure that rust will add to your difficulties,and with the boat off you can check the rest of the trailer and lubricate wherever might need it at the same time.

Don't know how difficult the job will be, but you can get the rollers from a variety of places like indespension(expensive IMHO and irritating website) and Autow. there are others but I can't remember right now.

HTH,cheers,

Agree with Gavin about taking boat off the trailer. Not sure where you are (fill in bio) but why not moor for a night or so to enable you to complete work. Should be able to get the parts from any decent trailer dealer although you may have to wait a few days for delivery. If you send a PM I'll give you name of a good local (to me) dealer.

Thanks guys for the help and tips.

I will not be changing them with the boat on the trailer, not all the rollers need replacing, and I shall give them a full inspection at the next launch!

Going to have a look at the Towsure website now....

Cheers.
