Tool sharpening on board

I usually manage to misuse chisels, screwdrivers and scrapers and would like to be able to sharpen them on board ( boat in Spain)
I do have a couple of stones on board but it takes a lot of work on some of the most misused. I thought that on.my next trip I would bring some sort of grinding wheel that would fit in my drill.
Any advice as to what is the best buy,?
Will my drill have a fast enough speed?
Do I need 2 grades?

Local friend bought a jig off the web that does a decent job on plane blades and chisels. Powered by a standard drill and easy to set up. Needs a little 'touching up' on a fine stone, if fussy. But quite impressed. Quite cheap IIRR
I will ask him for details.

I suppose the problem will be flying ferrous material and the risk of rust staining on GRP

At home where there is a benchgrinder, I find a whetstone is enough to keep a good edge on even the most abused tools.

On board I use one of these tools. Runs on 240V or via a inverter. Needs a little packing to make it work better due to some slackness, but is very quick to sharpen chisels and many other tools. I also have one in my workshop.

Friend got back and it is this:

I tried it with an old plane blade. Trued it up nicely and good edge.

On the Aldi/lidl ones. I bought one but found the disc a bit corse and the jigging sloppy. Not suitable for plane blades, be better off with a roller guide on a wet stone.

I use a file for the first cut. You need a find one with a good edge.
I have also used a powered sander and an angle grinder.

The advantage of a whetstone, in a fitted box, is that it takes up little space, requires no electrical supply, and the mess generated is confined to a small area.

A whetstone or oilstone should be sufficient for maintaining an edge if you are unsure about maintaining the correct bevel then there are plenty of guides that can work for chisels and plane irons with them. There really should be no need for grinding but I think the clue lies in the word misuse

I have converted to diamond stones. The rougher grits repair damaged edges very easily. Can be bought as kits with lube, guide and leather strip. Fast and easy.

Use tools properly. Never hammer with a big spanner when a small one will do.

Me too. I converted to diamond sharpening stones more tham 30 years ago and still using the first 2 I bought.
