To good to be true

Looking for some Raymarine parts I came across this website in the USA

best boat shop|boat of sale - boatpartsshopshow.com

Some of the prices are ridiculously cheap, Has anyone used them? Have any forumites in the US heard of them?
I have a pal who buys non sailing things from the US of A. He has recently needed to pay more in import duties than the part cost.

Always worth finding out the total cost before picking up an 'unexpected' bill just to get a part delivered.

If it's done legally, there will be three charges - import duty, VAT and handling charges. These add up, as @Sandy says, and the delivery firms won't deliver until they're paid. Of course, low value items sometimes slip under the radar (I think there's a threshold below which duty is not payable), and if you are visiting the States anyway, you can bring stuff back in your luggage. Also, unless you're lucky and find a company that routinely does exports, you may be stuck for state taxes (American companies routinely don't show these).

And @KevinV suggests that this ain't a legal operation!

It's too frightening, one buys a steel bolt and it comes with the warning that the State of California has found it might cause cancer, infectious diseases and blood reactions that will immediately kill you and everyone else around you.
