Avast me harties!!

Since I had so much fun and enjoyment from bringing an old Pandora Mark 1 "Lydia" back to life, and given how much family fun we have had on it we are now up scaling!!

So I have got a Snapdragon 890 in need of a lot of TLC. And have hit my first problem. The engine!! What I know thus far

Engine is a Yamnar Model Number - 2QM15G
Has never been serviced by the looks of it.
I have no idea what hours etc she has done.

Given this I have set about sorting her out. I have got the service manual owner manual etc. from the NET. Given her a good clean and she appears to be in very good condition. I have had her started no problems and sounds great. however I have noticed a few problems already

I need to replace the Instrument panel on the outside as this has faded and is not working at all less the ignition. I have tried all the usual places Ebay, owner associations etc., and can’t find a replacement anywhere so first here are my first set of Questions:

1 - Anyone know a good dealer parts breaker etc. that might have a panel?
2 - Anyone able to tell me of any panels that are compatible with this engine.
3- Anyone know of a good servicing company in the west wales area that would be able to give it a good going over for me one I have done all I can?

Also I have never heard of Yanmar "Wife laughed and said it is a cheap Yamaha!!" (to be fair was a bit funny plus the spell checker would like to correct me too) Are they any good?, anyone had good bad experiences with them?

Thanks as always an I hope I will be able to share any tips suppliers etc. along the way that will be of help to other people.

Kind Regards

Yanmar, long established damnfine engines, roughly 50% of new boats have them, the rest have Volvos.

As already said, excellent engines. Parts are widely available, but like most marine engines can be expensive. For your replacement panel try Cellar Marine in Cornwall. Long established dealer who do lots of refurbishment work.

Hi-

Me too- just bought a Mirage with a QM, seller and I thought it was a 2gm!

Yanmar good, economical, purpose built marine engines but with eye watering spares prices!

however, you can use aftermarket filters/belts/alternators/starters. I'm fitting new mounts, 60 pounds, Yanmar 450 pounds!

The panel electrics are pretty crude- if you can't find a panel you will be able to make your own I think.

Let me know if you want free manuals (I got them here....)

Agree - I did make a new panel although I reused the lights and buzzer from the old one. But it is pretty basic and the workshop manual has a circuit diagram.

Yanma engines

Just thinking back it must be near 45 years since I first met a boat with a Yanma engine in. A single cylinder with dynastart is all I remember. Don't be concerned about the panel. As said it is just a collection of switches lights and gauges not like more modern ones. good luck with the restoration and new boat olewill
