It seems to be back again, the free download - - I'm sure it will upset the UKHO again though

Here's another one. This programme is made by Paul Lutus. It's free and what he calls 'careware' (more details on his site). http://www.arachnoid.com/JTides/index.html

Ps. Since I am relatively new to this forum, what was all the fuzz about (free tidal programms?)

Rene.

Which is about as much use as a Chocolate Teapot if you are based in the UK!!!!!

(The nearest station in Jtides is the Netherlands.)

Look again, I was replying to the guy that was recommending JTIDES!!!

I know WXtide has UK, I have been using it for last 3 years (although its predictions for London Bridge are a bit off sometimes.)

If I'm not mistaken, you can add you own station in JTides. I did it in the past....

I can't get it working either, Jane.

It downloads OK but won't install because wxtide40.inf is missing. This isn't one of the files contained in the downloaded stuff either.

Anybody able to help?

Why would I want to do that with WXtides having 44 ports already?

(as everyone reading in FLAT mode is telling me!)

Plus you have to install JAVA just to run JTIDES.

What a waste of time!

Extract all the files into a temporary folder, then try again.

It gives that error if you try to run setup straight from the ZIp.

Re: Tide software UK thingies

Ahhhhhh, I am using a former version of JTide, which DID include UK ports. Here's the note from Paul Lutus himself (posted on his website).

Note about UK Coverage

In April 2002, the UK Hydrographic Office ordered the removal of all UK tidal data from JTides and all other free tidal prediction programs. The fact that this is a free program, created in the public interest, has had no effect on their zeal to collect nonexistent copyright fees. The fact that this decision will decrease the safety of sailing in the UK has not swayed them in the slightest.
I mention this because the absence of UK tidal data is one of the most common inquiries about JTides. I am powerless to shape the thinking of the bureaucrats in the UK Hydrographic office, and I imagine Lord Nelson is shifting uncomfortably in his grave.

Ian - is it Jtides or WxTide - you talking about ?

I thought the whole thread was about WXTide ...... I don't recall Ian Grant mentioning J TIdes which is a different beast altogether .....

And anyway - WxTide doesn't screw up windows, doesn't need Java etc. etc.
