THOSE OF US WITH BOATS IN THE MED

No. Roy has bought himself a fab Sealine F42/5 and you'd swear it was his first born grandchild the way he dotes after it. I mean we're still sinking Mandy's Measures and ramping up the party when he starts making noises about going back to the marina so he can polish the boat before going home. This is every weekend mind. And when he does allow us a boarding pass to party all the booze is either clear or white. Not a Malbec in sight.
You can actually see his robust tan fade to a pallid wan as the tenders approach him at anchor waving bottles of booze in greeting.

Just and update from Sant Carles.
I have some friends who had their boat lifted in the yard for some big maintenance jobs.
Yesterday, Sant Carles Marina (like all the others) shut down.
No staff on site - marina only contactable vial email of telephone.
And as they left, they padlocked the boatyard so nobody can get in or out.
My friends are living on the boat so are now stuck inside.
I contacted them over WhatsApp and asked if I could supply them with shopping.
They are British so the reply came "we have food for 4 weeks and have started rationing - the big problem is that we don't know if we have enough booze to last that long".
Don;t worry, we WILL keep them stocked!!!
Apart from that, Sant Carles is quiet and the weather has been awful - forecast for tomorrow looks better though.

That's what I was worried about yesterday, definitely a brown trouser moment waiting to hear if my props would come in time. The relief today to wake on my home berth was immense, never did La Nap look so welcome.

I wish your friends well.

Blimey M, that sounds beyond a joke.
Italy has now been locked down for a while as you know, and all personal movements are very restricted, but they are still allowed in several specific cases.
Food provisioning been not the only one, but the most obvious.
How can they lock someone inside a fenced area, potentially without access to basic survival needs? Sounds like kidnapping!
Btw, I've yet to hear of a boat with an unlimited black tank capacity....

Our boatyard has it's own toilet block with a small shower unit.
And my friends own a Dagless - big enough to have a couple of baths.
They are blocked off next to fenced scrubland so at the end of each day, they let their grey water discharge over the scrubland.
Toilets, they use the toilet block.

But you are correct, locking them in seems a bit extreme.
That said, there is only one duty dockmaster on call - the rest of the marina is working by email and telephone.
It would be unprofessional if the marina left the boatyard unlocked during this crisis - so that had to do something.
I suspect that if my friends telephoned the staff on their hotline, that they would send someone over to let them get fresh provisions.

It looks likely that my ferry on the 7th April will be cancelled.
Starting to get a bit dissapointed with Brittany Ferries - I keep booking (and paying) - they keep cancelling (and to date not refunding).

Still - it looks like a sunny few days ahead!!!

Sounds still a bit extreme, but more acceptable.
Fwiw, I also couldn't access my own boat which is stored in a yard, but at least I wasn't counting to live on her.
Not till the end of May, at least - fingers crossed for being able to, by then!

Talking of which, did you hear anything from the marina in CF?
I still hope that the whole boating season will not be screwed, but I'm not holding my breath.... :(
Oh, well. Enjoy the sunshine, in the meantime!

Mike on the local Devon news tonightBrittany Ferries states the last sailing from Spain is this weekend. All passengers must take their own food and remain in their cabins. So I guess that’s it for a while.
Make the most of the good weather when it arrives.

Very sorry for you guys in the med who are on lock down and of course for the rest of the world....
For those in Spain and Italy have you any idea when the lock down will be lifted and when it started

Just been talking with friends who live aboard in France in Beaulieu sur Mer and they are confined to their boats and the port is closed. They can travel locally with the approved form, but one got pulled up by the local police when he was out looking for his cat and was told to return to his boat.

It started Saturday in Spain, no idea how long it will last. The Government 'state of alarm' order lasts for 2 weeks, but I think this is the maximum they could go for and it is likely at the end of two weeks there will be another two weeks lock down

We did book CF before all this kicked off but now I think it very unlikely that we will get there this year. Maybe there is a glimmer of hope for a very late season run but I'm not holding much hope.
Plan ATM is to get jobs done and try to keep busy.

We are permitted dog walks, and the wife took this photo early this morning

It seems as if we are being tested. The perfect weather has arrived at the same time as the lockdown

Looks lovely, are you allowed to take the dog for a walk as a couple or just on your own? Whatever happens by the end of the outbreak I suspect your's and other dogs will have never been exercised so much :D

There’s been an influx of Italians into Ticino before the authorities ( both sides ) realised the extent .We postponed our normal trip from CH to Liguria in March obviously.

Sort of fear of being trapped and with travel per se spreading it but Loano seems relatively unaffected to date .

Last Friday pm the Swiss ( in a panic move ) closed the schools and closed the ski lifts .Followed shortly by the French .

This had the effect of causing folks to mass move about ..and spreading it ..families still came up in to the mountains....from the cites in the valley around the lake .

So we quickly got the dogs passport stamped up and got out into France and drove up to the tunnel and are now safe - relatively on Brexit island .

There’s been too much movement around in the plague infested EU and some dumb decisions by governments eg half term movement and school closures = fuelled the spread .

I can see the boat on the marina web cam .

Last haul out I used for the first time mircon 77 or what ever number it was in 2019 ? ( as recommended by JFM ) .....the supposed 2 year anti foul. As I sort of 1/2 planned for some disruption in the move to Italy .Thinking might have hassle organising a lift etc .

As it happens I have arranged a lift for other general DIY er able maintenance at the end of April with a yard in Savona next door the Azimut factory .This seems unlikely to happen??

I can change the anodes by diving and the last I looked ( mid Oct ) they were fine .

The plan basically was to use a yard ( spent a lot of time last summer researching ) that paints boats , then over next winter 20/21 ....have it painted / minor refurb externally inc AF blast / removal back to new .

So now I think we will skip this Easters annual lift ( hope that micron 2 y stuff works btw ? ) and when things settle down in the EU do the whole exterior boat refurb later over the winter next year inc a bottom AF blast off as well as a paint job .Thats partly why we came to the Liguria.

As far as the season unfolds like everyone else let’s hope things start to open up by say June , which means we have lost only a couple of weeks any how .We were boating in Oct last year .

Had broadly pencilled in a trip along the coast to Portofino,la Spezia bay , Viareggio , Pisa and Elba + other minor islands + places of interest in-between.Having done C d A to death.

Anyhow all that can wait as can the mini external refurb .

I was on a cruise a few years ago and saw the azimut yard. Big place. The cruise liner Parked literally in the high street of Savona. Walk off the boat through a barrier and you were in town.

We are allowed to walk the dog (or exercise ourselves) as long as it’s close to home and you don’t interact with any people. For our dog who is used to walks miles from home, he is in effect on confinement but at least he’s out. I was out with him today and I saw a few couples, now logic is that if you’re confined with someone you might as well walk with them, but the government instructions aren’t saying that. Of course people were out with their children, even some whole families. But overall it’s a bit of a ghost town even for a Wednesday out of season on (formally) a school day. The next stage I’m told will be the recruitment of 100,000 civil servants to police the lockdown. That will be scary.
The dogs I worry about are those in pounds, usually volunteers walk them semi regularly but I’m guessing that will be stopped. I’m informed by my wife that there are actually fewer dogs out than normal. She has also seen groups of people out. It was the flagrant disregard for government advice about mixing that made President Macron impose the lockdown, he was royally peeved off. So if people disregard the new rules they will impose tougher rules and people like us who follow rules will suffer.
