My modified props back today at 3pm, launch 5pm ish. Seems no problem leaving Cannes. I guess I have a good reason going back to home berth from so close.

Lots of folks working on boats this morning. Yard is launching only.

Someone did say the ports are shut for large ferries, saw small ferry go to the Isles de Lerins.

Now to decide whether to drive home or sit it out on boat.

Ya well no fine, maybe, but I'm counting on Sods Law that if you Med boys are locked down the weather is going to be the best in living memory here in Sunny Wales and I'm going to make sure I'm there to take full advantage of it. :D

Good luck to you. I hope it is ?

We took a s65 to palma in 2015 and it was £20k.

Rates are always volatile and I gather that they have risen to closer to £30k recently.

Further because of Corona and less commercial flights the cargo market generally has seen short term price rises so I guess it could easily be more than this.

You then have to take it back again so I suspect the overall bill by the time you include additional mooring and a possible vat bill could be “unwelcome”

I just need someone with a Squadron 58 in the uk to swap a week this year for a week next year in the med !

We are coming up with contingency plans of how to get to the boat in Beaulieu sur Mer to sit it out. Beats being at home!

What do you plan to do S apart from sit on your boat? A key point for me determining whether or not I would make the effort to get there would be whether the French authorities banned private boat movements or not

Less cargo = higher prices? That sounds counter intuitive especially for sea freight

But yes of course the cheaper option would probably be to charter a boat in the UK for a couple of weeks to get a boating fix (assuming the UK doesnt shut down as well)

There is not less cargo, but there are less passenger flights - and many of them take Cargo as well as passengers.

This capacity has in effect been removed and the goods need to get there somehow.

For example BA run a long haul 777 daily to Madrid purely to satisfy the cargo demand of the route.

Several airlines - Lufthansa are reported to be one - consider it worth running planes with no passengers for the current cargo yield.

Yeah but we're talking about specialised sea freight! I cannot imagine that there will be many boats being shipped from the UK to the Med this season and return now so I assumed rates would be lower as a result?

Which brings me to another question. How are the big boat manufacturers going to do in this crisis with the Med and most of the rest of the world shut down? If a major global recession occurs (not really if but more like when) thats going to hit them hard and why would you buy a new boat anyway this year when the chances are you are not going to be able to use it?

Thats another way of saying there could be some stonking deals on stock boats in a few weeks/months time

Thanks and I hope the lock down eases and you guys get to enjoy your boats. Miserable affair the whole lot but I must confess I'm a bit concerned. It's hammering those with heart disease and that places me at risk. Meanwhile the kids get to go to school to freely bring it back. I'd be quite happy otherwise to take the family and sit it out from the boat. I'm a home worker anyway so there'd be no issues there.

Mike, I agree but assumed they could just bolt containers to the deck?

I suspect there will be some decent deals to be done on stock boats, but given none of the manufacturers are in an amazing position sadly there will most likely be some fall out.

Yep - sit on the boat. Perhaps do some polishing, clean things, work on my French, we have had a couple of cancelations in the apartment so that's a possibility as well. There is also start some early tanning efforts, get the paddle board out. There must be some good in this?

Unfortunately I haven't made the non-essential cut at work so it looks like I will stuck here.

If what happens is like Spain panel boards etc will be out. I suspect you will also need to make a choice of Boat / House as in Spain the only reasons to go out are food etc etc and " visiting mon bateaux" is unlikely to cut it.

Best of luck

Avec mon chien, c'est nessesaire pour nous de faire des promenades?

The local chandlers has closed for all but deliveries so I can get cleaning products sent direct to the boat and enter a sort of cleaning polishing nirvana.

I'll admit there might be some small holes in this plan, but I am trying to be positive. Besides I need to see Mike and S try some paddle boarding. I have been waiting since last summer for this and no virus will stand in the way!

Er you wont catch me paddle boarding. I wouldnt want to show you guys up ? Its S's paddle board anyway

The big hole in your plan is that Macron is going to speak to the country tonight and the rumour is that he is going to lock the whole country down which means confining everyone to their homes. Apparently

Well, I guess he wouldn't be going to speak to the Country just to announce business as usual...
Fwiw, he has been in constant contact with Conte, lately.

I think the window to GET TO THE BOAT is closing fast. I now have a built in excuse for lack of polished topsides!
