THOSE OF US WITH BOATS IN THE MED

I have to say that I am saddened by how many people seen to think they know better and that some part of the rules don't apply to them. All people should be responsible and respectful to others and simply abide by these rules. No ones boat is worth someone or someone else's life.

I read in one post the other day the term essential maintenance...……. There simply is no such thing as essential maintenance in these circumstances

FWIW, ok not much... they are banning all recreational boating in Greece from Sunday (or Monday)
didn't mention how long for, guess end of April, mid May - that's going to hit yachting, rentals, skippers, etc seriously. Considering that tourism is the heavy industry of Greece, country is going to suffer...

Very sad for Greece and indeed the rest of the world. Keep positive and think about the good things I am convinced that helps yourself and others get through things....... Lift peoples spirits
 
It has been very windy here all week so I haven't thought about taking the boat out. Beautiful today and we will probably go out. I can drive to the marina with my wife and daughter, park close to the boat and go out/return without having any close contact with anyone. I never need assistance from the marina staff for departure or arrival. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong and it's certainly going to do wonders for our mental health. I'm being particularly careful otherwise as I had a prostate cancer procedure just one week ago.

Take advantage while you can. Here there is no pleasure boating indeed we cannot even walk on the beach. Good luck with the prostate?
 
So for those with boats in the med, given its approaching the start of the season, will you be performing your usual maintenance/servicing this year or will you seek to minimise or defer your annual maintenance costs in anticipation of not being able to use the boat much this year.

What are you thinking?

I think it depends on how long the lock down persists in France. I have a haul out booked for the first week of May and I was planning on being there, but it may all have to be postponed. If I can't get there, then it's not a big problem as I'll get my gardiennage guys to do the jobs that I was planning to do. We're still hoping that we can spend July & August on the boat, but time will tell!

Assuming the boat is accessible it seems like a good reason to check everything and carry out every imaginable maintenance task so the boat is ready to go. However if travel and leisure boating are prohibited that would only be possible if professionals are paid to do the work.

Must admit I’m a little worried about the state of my anodes, they were quite degraded this time last year. Nothing I can do though.
At least in the Med the season is longer so I’m thinking I might get a go in October.

Regarding Anodes. My boat is on the Norfolk Broads which is Brackish (where I am) the problem is no one knows what level of brackish it is and it varies with tides and rain etc and opinion is divided on what anodes to use. In short my boat was in 2 years (as boats often are on the Broads) and I think I had the wrong anodes. When I had the leg inspected and worked on it was fine. So I think the whole anode thing is not as crucial as some feel it is

If the boat yard is open I will ask them to take the boat out. The problem is room, if none of the boats that are stored on land go back in the water this season then they will be short of space and cradles

Without any doubt you should use aluminium anodes.

I wouldn't jump in such conclusion, 'cause your "wrong" anodes might well have been better than nothing.
If you fully trust your own conclusions, you can as well try to leave the boat with no anodes at all for another 2 years, and see what happens.
Me, I'd rather read about the results, than try that on my own boat. ;)
 
yeah I'm expecting (hoping!) that we can get out in july, and I dont really see that I can defer any maintenance, so it will probably be the usual lift, antifoul, anodes, drive oil change, engine oil change and filters. Dont really think there's anything in that list I can (or should ) avoid/defer.
