Picked the daughter up from school today, it has its perks!, got stopped by the Games Master. Turns out that the school are starting a sailing club and are would I like to join help out. So long and short of it is that I'll be helping out on thursday evenings from now on with a bunch of kids and parents and a load of sailing dinghies. Better get that old Topper out then and brush up on the sailing skills.

The serious side of it though. We need things like this to get the next generation of boaters interested and starting off on the right foot. I know the RYA has got its youth sailing thing, but thats more racing orientated. This will be for the fun and hell of it type thing. We're lucky that we've got a sailing cemter just down the road from us in Redhill.

Oh my god what have I let myself in for!

Sounds like a bad move Barry. Dont you think that theres more than enough dinghys and row boats floating about without you joining the oposition!!

Good on yer Harry, go for it,

Being a dedicated raggie I wanted my 2 sons to learn how to sail and decided the best way was to make them members at my club and involve myself in the training.

I convinced myself that I did this to keep an eye on my lads; I can now state that this was the by far one of the most rewarding exercises I have ever done, some of these 'kids' have gone on to become more than just another raggie clogging the waterways, they are champions, winners and fantastic sports, and my both sons, thou not Australian representatives are both still very keen sailors 20+ years on.

Go for it Barry, Stinky or raggie, we must get the younger ones involved or the art of sailing will be a computer game that no one plays or understands.

On second thoughts, perhaps I should make this post in the morning, after all it has been a good night at the yacht club, another life member confirmed, a sponsor donating two more mirrors to the junior fleet, a swag of trophies handed out, and enough rum to float a 30 footer with a fixed keel.

Good on yer' We need to get em' young. You never know you may have another round the world champion or dinghy olympian amongst them! Well done, we should all try to do our best to give them a chance to learn.
