......when 2 of your students from 7 years ago turn up on their yacht to say hello on their way to the Caribbean. :)

We met a couple who came to the sea school we were part of in Lanzarote 7 years ago. I took them for their first ever sail. We were also involved with their day skipper training and did a weeks cruise with them to see if they liked the life.

3 years ago they bought an ex Joint Services (British Kiel Yacht Club) Najad 33 in Italy. They spent some time sailing the yacht and a slow refit. Left in the summer and had some adventures sailing here. In their 30's, they have taken 2 years off work for the grand tour.

The reason I'm so pleased about this right now is they've just sent a departure text and I got yacht Vaquita on AIS. Good luck to them and their crewmate. They've promised lots of pictures to revive our memories of our first crossing on a same sized yacht. :):):):)

After I left my job as the Trainer for Kawasaki Motors UK Ltd. and became a dealer in new and used motorcycles it was hard not to be flattered by the number of mechanics who had attended my courses asking for help and advice. It continued until the early 90's, more than 10 years, until the bikes of my time had then become collectors items and were superceeded by modern superbikes.

Also, a few years ago, while visiting the Saltash Club on the Tamar, I recognised a chap who was a member, but I could not place him. He engaged me in conversation, told me he had lived close to our Didcot shop and had purchased a Yamaha XS650 Custom from me.

I said I hoped he was happy with the deal.

"Happy - I'm still over the moon. I've 'ad it fifteen years now, always passes the MOT, its never gone wrong and is a great ride!"

"Well" I replied "I obviously sold it to you too cheap!"

"Dont start that old nonsense - come 'an 'ave a drink!" he replied.

So we did......................................

A serious and true fact. My mate Bob, fellow petrolhead and racer, worked as the Technical Director for a refrigeration company.

A well known chain of Undertakers asked him to investigate the possibility of vertical Morgue cabinets.

A large proportion of his business WAS vertical freezer cabinets, so technicaly very possible.

'Elf'n'Safety scuppered this space saving idea.

A human body would cause a bit more injury sould it fall than a box of frozen haddock......................

In the 1974 Aussie bike film “Stone”, now a cult classic, they bury one of their members vertically. It’s a great movie, Z1 mayhem.

… “the reason we’re burying you standing up is so you don¹t have to take anything from The Evil One lying down.”

The Vintagent Classics: Stone | The Vintagent

When I first watched Stone, they were happy days, carefree, T120 chop, teaching dinghy sailing, girls, partying and motorbikes was all that mattered.

As a friend commented when we were reminiscing, we did more back then with no money, than we do now, with all our dosh.

Happiness is.

Warm evening sunlight in the woods

A visit from inquisitive youngsters when the light had faded'

And apart from the natural night sounds of the wood...silence. (y)...:giggle:

An old friend who sailed a Hornet dinghy used to say happiness is a three-sail reach and a sliding seat.
I had a brief sail on one of those after a sailing tuition week. The seat moved on an upward curved track to keep your backside dry. The other thing I remember was keeping the self-bailer drains open because it was a boisterous day. But then forgetting to close them so the boat started filling up as soon as we slowed down back at the pontoon...
