From a newspaper report about the voyage in 1962 I believe that Cornishman might be someone called Mike Bygrave who latterly lived in or near Saltash in Cornwall.
I can't post a copy of the newspaper report because of copyright but it's available on the British Newspaper Archive site

It is a subscription site - or otherwise.......?

There are also a number of articles about the voyage on this news archive, if you haven't already seen them:

I've realised I didn't mention that there are two photos of Taurua in the Imperial War Museum collection, as follows:
"The schooner 'TAURUA' manned by an all military crew, enters Pieta Creek, Malta during her journey from Singapore to Toulon, France." - Cat. No. MALTA 62-247-A3

"The 'all-military' crew of the schooner 'TAURUA' pose on the boat as she is moored in Pieta Creek, Malta part way through her journey from Singapore to Toulon, France." - Cat No. MALTA 62-247-A9

Hope this is useful.
