2.3 Standing for Parrots

2.3.1 Standing area, individual exercise areas and sleeping perches shall be of smooth, impervious materials, capable of being easily cleaned. New perches shall incorporate a damp proof membrane.

2.3.2 All floors of perches and individual exercise areas shall be constructed and maintained in such a condition as to prevent pooling of liquids.

2.3.3 In new constructions, perches shall be laid to a minimum fall of 1 in 80 leading to a shallow drainage channel or effectively covered deep drainage channel.

2.3.4 On person or communal exercise areas shall also be suitably drained to prevent pooling of liquids.

2.3.5 All wooden materials including perch legs shall be properly treated against wood rot, e.g. tanalised. Only non-toxic products shall be used.
