Some may remember a noob arriving here a couple of months ago, with the usual round of "Which boat?" questions. Then the usual "I've just bought a boat but it won't run..." stuff, followed by a "Dare I go out in the Solent?" thread.
Well he did, and we met up with Gary in Lymington after he towed his Bayliner down and got installed in the campsite. He wandered over on Saturday night with his two boys and a cute Jack Russell and we had a couple of beers before agreeing to meet up on Sunday morning. "I should be clear of the campsite by 9am, so we'll be on the water for 9.30," he assured us as he left at midnight...
Anyway, around 11.30 we were over in Colwell Bay and we got a text to say that he'd had a problem with the engine, but it was now all sorted. "Come out of the river and turn about 45* right," says I, "and you'll come straight past the old fort and into the bay."
Now, when he eventually turned up, I did promise that I wouldn't post on the forum about the fact that he managed to miss the Isle of Wight and called me to say he could see a large balloon (Bournemouth Pier). First time out, I guessed that a little leeway on the navigation was OK. So they got over in the end and rafted up while we had some lunch and the kids did a bit of swimming. I also promised that I wouldn't post about the fact that his mooring lines fell off and the boat started to drift off and had to be rescued (good job we had the tender in the water).
Eventually, we swapped boats and headed off back to Lymington (SWMBO was itching to have a go in the Bayliner):
Now, for those wondering why I went back on my word and published details of Gary's little faux pas, I'll leave him to explain later, when he gets online...
Either way, a great weekend!
