I have 3 versions on my boat ...
a) A Tool roll that has now had the Roll thrown away and placed into a B&Q utility box ... has minimal amount of tools - but is most used ! Cost about £10 20 yrs ago .... Replaced screwdrivers when they broke handles only.
b) A 'useless' cheapo tool box with rusty tools inside that really should be dumped !! Lives in aft cockpit locker never seeing the light of day, until I need something that is under it .... (this has my bolt-cutters in - never used them !!)
c) Macro Tool-box with assorted tools and crimps etc. about $19.99 The type that has a multi screwdriver and bits, various sockets and rachet, side cutter pliers, thin nose pliers, normal pliers, 12V tester, allen keys .... the list goes on .... It also has a section on the front of the lid that holds all sorts of electrical connectors and crimps. Yep the screwdrivers are crap - replace with suitable better when they break, rachet socket driver is crap - replace with better when rachet fails .....
Overall I don't buy expensive tools .... except when its a specific and valued job ... that needs a good instrument. The above c) is now more than 7 yrs old and thge hinges on the box have just broken - so its getting close to time to either buy another or transfer all to a suitable B&Q tool caddy !!
I have cordless drill and various other stuff to complement the above...
Basically you can spend a fortune on good gear and watch it rust the same as cheap !!
In addition to the cheap stuff - a few good screwdrivers is about all you need .......
