The Hamble in Spate

Nice video again.

Was hoping for more of your acerbic commentary if I'm honest. We need a directors cut!!!!!

I was hoping that the images and the song said it for me

I have learned a few things about Solent sailors

1/they are better than average - they have to be

2/they like dealing with boat traffic

3/they like to complain about prices of marinas

4/they hate it when anyone criticises the Solent

5/They are astonishingly generous paypal tappers on films that praise their patch

I would say "are able to deal with boat traffic" rather than liking it!

I felt pretty stressed going sailing in plymouth sound, we're only used to meeting one or two other boats a day up here. Not sure how i'd cope in the solent :-) good vid

I think it is now well established that Solent sailors suffer intense feelings of loneliness when they leave the Solent and have a tendency to self medicate to ease their sufferings.

It is actually a fascinating place to sail - and if you know where to hide you can miss the worst of the crowds.

And they are great tappers.

Sorry visuals looked good for the initial part I watched but I had to turn out off as count stand the sea shanty music and don't know how to turn down the volume on an I pad

Vol control is normally the big rocker switch, top of the right hand side, under the mute button. (Unless you've Really been playing with settings in which case you're on your own!!)

I also dislike shanties

but in this case I felt that the ironic nature of the words added something to the insanity of this unique place ..... and yes, for the first timer it was a quite frightening experience. I think the boss woman did pretty well in keeping us out of the excitement.

Top rate boat handling within the river I think

as for the big planing mobos who just slam those levers back as soon as they pass the speed limit sign regardless of what is going on around them....really do not give a tinkers cuss about other water users....

there were canoeists and eight year old oppie sailors around for goodness sake

Windermere has been transformed by a speed limit - but that would leave a bit of a problem for the seacats and hovercraft.

The Red Jets get permission (they have to ask each time) to exceed the speed limit north of Hythe Pier.

(Not that I think there's any need for a speed limit on the rest of Southampton Water or the Solent.)
