As mentioned in the other thread regarding the boat purchase, the boat is currently in Turku -> http://g.co/maps/rdwyz and our target is to move the boat to Lappeenranta -> http://g.co/maps/fdc5r in the Lake Saimaa where her new home will be.

I'm sitting in a train on my way down to the boat where my brother will join me later tonight. The plan is to start early tomorrow morning and make our way as far east as conditions allow. The weather forecast doesn't look at all promising but also keeps constantly changing, so I'm hoping we can make a start but I'm also fully prepared to abandon the plan if needs be.

Hopefully we'll get as far as Kotka -> http://g.co/maps/g6r35 Following Kotka we'll exit the EU at Santio -> http://g.co/maps/jszum border control and continue to Vyborg, Russia where the Saimaa Canal begins -> http://g.co/maps/cytsz Here is a Wikipedia article on the canal itself for those interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saimaa_Canal

There is a lot of driving for tomorrow for sure, but it should be doable if the weather is not too bad.

I'm planning to trial the iAis mobile app, so if you're bored at work you can entertain yourself by following our progress. I'll post the details when I get it up and running.

So, armed with a giant bag full of gear and seven copies of all the relevant documents, I'm hopeful we can get underway tomorrow...

Thanks for posting this info sm, a very interesting read. I know little to nothing about the Baltic area, so I'm finding all the info you post to be fascinating.
I can't get over the amount of lakes in Finland, it must be a stunning place for boating in mid summer.

I can see Aida on the ships list, but not on the map, and not in the drop-down list on the search box on the map page ... any pointers on how to find her please?

Thanks for trying, but still no joy here. Unfortunately the link you posted is just rendered as the marine traffic home page. Can you give me a rough range/bearing from a geographic point, and I'll try that way? I can see a vessel 'celia' that looks like she should be roughly in the right place...?

Currently in Hanko.

i have found easiest way to track ships on the site is to register for free, go to "my fleet", add vessel and use the MMSI number given (or search for name) and add to fleet. then you can go to fleet list and it will give you position and link onto the map
 
Thanks all. I've found her now - oddly, if I look at the marinetraffic site in Firefox, Aida is not shown; but she is when you look at the site in IE. Some kind of google maps bug praps.
