The Camber Portsmouth.

Get to Ballast pole.
Radio up Qhm on 11 ask for permission to cross over.
Enter Camber, park on Rhs Wall ( starboard).
Pay the boatyard its Browns I think

There is often a mooring alongside the wall next to a ladder opposite the Bridge Tavern, excellent pub

It may look like a nice pub but the Ale is usually off in there. Much better to walk up the road to spice island or one of the others if you're an ale drinker :)

As a local, the Bridge Ale is usually OK.
The Spice Island and Still and West are very touristy in the summer. In winter the spice has been known to be completely devoid of real ale.

A few minutes walk away are the American Bar (other side of Camber Dock) and the Dolphin, which normally has a good range of beers (High St, other side of Cathedral). Also Monk's Bar, which does a good pint.

That's where I grew up!

As a kid we used to spend summers on the Point, jumping off the Round Tower at high tide for a dare.

The Camber was a working port then. As a yoof I used to work on Jim Butchers blue launches on trips round the harbour and as tugs for the coasters into the Camber.

The Bridge was a dockers/fishermans pub then. Keg beer and the only food was half a french stick with slabs of cheese and chunks of onion. Great for lunch. The Dolphin was our local. Did you know there's a signiture from Nelson etched into the glass inside?

I met my first wife in the Still and West when I was working at Lucas sailmakers.

Ah, memory lane............

I assume it's all yupified now?
