Just finished breakfast - bacon on toast - yummy. Thinking about starting some jobs, thought better of it. Then sat bolt upright, sounds like water is pouring into the bilges. Run and shut off the fresh water system as we'd just fitted a new tap and thought the joint had gone. No change, if anything getting louder. Next all electrics off and start looking, floor boards up - good grief it's getting louder, not in a specific place though. Grab phone and think about calling the marina to come and help - "my boats' filling with water". Think I better check everywhere first - so I know I have to do the dirty deed, the floor panel to the engine seacock is damned heavy and sticks in winter, so get the rope to lift it and haul it up. Damn it, it's not that (yard fitted the new inlet, I knew it was OK but you never really know) I am now pretty much not thinking, just panicking. I can hear water pouring into the boat and with that big panel up it's louder than ever. Mind you, strange the bilge alarm hasn't gone off and the auto bilge pump kicked in. Must be elsewhere in the boat. That's it - going to call for help, saw Roger pass 15 minutes ago, get help from him. Open the wheelhouse door, good he's there - running his Blooody engine under full load with maximum prop cavitation  all that cavitation sounds exactly like a broken seacock filling the bilges.

Thanks Roger, next time I know you're on board I'm going to creep up and shout "FIRE" down one of your cabin vents, see how you like it :D

Interesting.
I found out in the early hours of Saturday morning that the start of ice moving against the hull at half tide sounds remarkably like someone on deck!
Mind you after that, snuggled back in the berth, it sounds like it is digging its way in.....
