If you have recently puchased a telescopic spinnaker pole - allow me to advise you concerning the stringy bit with which you can pull the endy thingys open.
When you have the pole in its non-extended mode you will need a certain length of string to reach from one end to the other.
When you extend the pole, the pole gets longer and so you will find that the piece of string that you have fitted will not actually be long enough.
This in itself is not exactly rocket science but herein lies the warning - It would be better if you got your piece of string and tied it off in the non extended mode, leaving any extra just hanging there so that when you extend the pole you can simply adjust the length of the string until it it ok then tie it off and cut off any excess.
If you have used some rather pleasant looking dyneema which you got from the Boat Show - even when it was purchased at a reduced cost (plus marital discount worked out on the way home) then some over exubrant visiting ageing forumite decides to administer death by a thousand cuts to it with his shiney yachtingpersonyknifie - its a real bummer to find that the nice looking dyneema was exactly the right length - or would have been if the 6ft had not been cut off.
