The wood work on the inside of my Cobra has seen better times. I was intending to use Teak Veneer but the cost so far has stoped me. Is there a good alternative that could be used that would give a good finish?
Have you spoken to Robbins of Bristol. They do a range of different veneers. My price list is quite old (1998) but teak isn't that dear (relative to other timbers) 0.85 for teak, american Oak 0.60, European Oak £1.00, Cherry £1.10 all per square foot.
Thanks for the reply. Have checked out Robbins who were very helpful, but the teak veneer is over £100 for a sheet of ply veneer. May be I'm a bit tight but I hoped there might be a cheaper ply that might give the same result
Arr, I was erroneously thinking you were going to re-veneer the panel not replace the panel. Have a think about doing that. It's not as difficult as you might think - in fact I would rather re-veneer (with a thickish veneer) than scribe a bulkhead to the hull. A decent finish on ply is expensive. Try Silvermans (they have a depot at Borehamwood, Hertfordshire but I thing you have the market rate for teak faced ply.
lovely quality and typically part cut large sheets (maybe 2/3rds full sheet) are about £30 to £50. Very helpful folk too - great teak store and well worth a browse.
Try your local woodyard and ask for iroko or aframosa veneered ply you should be able to get an 8x4 sheet for about 25 to 30 pounds or less, won`t be waterproof but then do you get that much water in your boat. alternatively use mahogany and stain it with a teak stain, even grain it to look like teak if you so desire its not hard. With a bit of diligent cutting and the maximum use of a whole sheet it wont be that expensive and will increase the value of your asset no end.
best of luck
Rob
