I agree, GFS give the same prognoses.
Gulf of Biscay:
Tuesday : NNE 6-12 kts, backing
Wednesday NW-W, 12-22 Kts
Thursday: NW-W-12-22 Kts

You dont want to be in the Gulf on Biscay from thursday onwards. Not if its just for a hobby: 26-30 Knts N

They cobbled together repairs, and headed off to Brest this afternoon. They are now in Brest, and latest from tcm is that repairs commenced 16:05

Just spoken to tmc and Tico. They are in Brest, and heading out on town tonight. No repairs possible yet. Boss engineer guy is due tomorrow morning - they are much happier with the engineers in Brest, as proper MAN approved people. However, this is a new problem. The injector pipe, where it comes out of pump has cracked.

What they don't know at the moment is whether this part can be replaced in situ, or whether all the intercooler pipes etc have to be removed to do this. If the latter, it could be a rather lengthy repair! tcm not a happy bunny!

So they are now stuck in Brest until further notice

Don't ask me! Completely non technical. I guess the MAN engineers know what they are talking about, and when I spoke to Tico (diesel engine type person) he seemed unsure if they can do it in-situ

It's all a ploy. The daily distances have been going down and down due to either a) the fear of having to cross Biscay has got to them or b) the thought - horror of horrors - of having to leave behind the french food and wine and replace it with hard tack or paella, or both if the "cook" is really on form.

Whilst they must be enjoying themselves ashore I bet they are really pissed off - hope all is fixed asap and they have a trouble free trip thereafter.
 
Oh well. I tried to post dispassionate posts on where the cruise was, and how it was going. If people are going to nit pick, while Matt and crew aren't here to post or defend, then I don't want to be responsible for idiots picking holes.

End of updates, other than latest position, and requests for help on forecasting. Thanks Kingfisher for help, I'd appreciate any help you can provide over next few days
 
Please stick with it Brendan, clearly a modern Odyssey in the making.

I'm stuck in an office in Muscat with no chance of getting to sea for weeks yet, this is keeping me sane.
