TAMD73 Starting problems

Hi all,

I've got an issue starting one of my engines - when left for a while the port engine takes an age to get going, then 'chugs' for a while before settling down. Subsequent starts are on the button until the next time it's left for a while. I've found that pumping the manual fuel pump primer a few times helps considerably, so I assume it's a fuel pressure problem. Starboard engine starts instantly every time. Could it be something as simple as a failed non-return valve, or do I need to look for something else? Probably on the boat at the weekend so can perform any checks anyone suggests.

Yep, it probably is my fault - changed the primary filters, but nothing else. Could it be this? Can double check security of everything at the weekend, but did the same on the starboard side and have had no problems.

PMV on injection pump.

Thanks, is that something I can diagnose or replace easily myself? If so how?

Not really, haven't had much use of the boat last couple of seasons, and most notably this year due to Covid. It's always been a bit difficult. There's no air in the primary filter casings, and no diesel leak anywhere. Is there an idiots guide to sourcing an air leak anywhere?

Google reckons 'Pressure Modulating Valve'. I can only assume that means sourcing a rebuilt injection pump.

Valve is the outlet union upper rear of pump , it has the injector bleed pipe attached to it , take the valve off and give it a shake if it rattles it’s dead , you can also clean it and try and blow down it the same way fuel flows out of it , it’s job is to maintain pressure inside the pump if that fails the level drops as fuel exits the pump
